People who are the closest to me know how much I want to go back to Istanbul and photograph it my way! The city I grew up… Now I found this Italian photographer, married to a Mexican wife living in Mexico City, away from home. As most of you know, most European Countries go thru financial ‘hell’. Alex Coghe, a good friend of mine, very talented street photographer and one of our judges at our International Street Photography Contest, a contributor to Leica Camera Blog has a project that reminded me of myself wanting to go photograph Istanbul. I wanted to share Alex’s video with you. I support this project for two reasons and here is why:
1- Even though a good photographer can photograph pretty much anything and anywhere, if you remember what I said in my first blog post ever: The most important element in a photograph for me is the soul of the image. Not the lighting, not the posing, positioning, composition etc. Although everything is important, an image means nothing to me without a soul. When an Italian photographs Italy, it will be better in my opinion because it will be heartfelt in every click! And more importantly, if this person lives away from home, I can imagine how much better these images can get. I have been there. I left the place I was born and I remember how homesick I was in the past. I still am sometimes.
2- I would encourage you to take a close look at Alex’s blog-website. He is a visionary and has a very sincere personality. I have been familiar with his work little over a year now and I believe if this project takes off, images coming out of this project would be a great addition to history of photography.
I hope you support him as well.
